Go the way of the Goat

The Members of the CIO Team here in Basilwood...

All of us have people who inspire us, who believe in us beyond what we believe in for ourselves and who stand in the sidelines cheering us on as we continue along the path of life.   Here are a few of those very special family members and creatures that do that for us here in Basilwood...

A Day in Basilwood...

Our day begins here with these girls.  This is Jasmine.  She was bottle-raised by some lovely humans from Squaw Valley, and because of that, she loves to greet people when they come into her pasture and get plenty of pets.  She is also first and last in the feed bin, and THE best mommy of the bunch!

The commute to work isn't so bad when you are living on the farm...

..

We are often asked if we use machines to milk our goats. Nope...

We get to make the most luscious goat's milk soap in the whole wide world.  If you don't believe us, just ask the girls!  They insist that their milk is the BEST.  And we don't argue with them, because if we do, they kinda get insulted. But, it really is...

The junior members of the team like to hang out outside the milk barn.  The milk does get to have grain treats while they are on the milk stand. Everybody knows about the treats and can't wait until it's their turn!  The trick is to get inside the door without a mob scene.

After milking, we take the fresh milk to the Soap Room where it is filtered and chilled until it's ready to be used. The best part about having our own goats is that we don't have to water down the milk for the soap which means every bar of soap has about 20% milk in it.  Ooooooo... In addition to soap making, we use our milk for yogurt and cheese making too because it's really yummy.

We love to use botanicals, especially when we can gather them from our garden here...

Creating a utilitarian item and making it beautiful is a great way to connect with a simpler time.

All of the members of the goat milk soap team here in Basilwood have unique personalities, just like their human counterparts.  There is much to learn from these curious, endearing creatures.

Our goal here is to put a smile on your face very day, whether it's a picture from one of the goat kids, one of the grandkids, or something we make for you.  We feel very blessed to be here and to share these things with you.
